We were just about to head out the
gate with Philo and Rusty when I spied
the escapees on the walk.
Bunnies Praline and Smudge
had found a hole in the fence
that the snow had knocked open and
climbed through to yikes! freedom.
I panicked. If they bolted, both would be
coyote food in short order. David went one
way and I the other and after several twists and
turns, we managed to move them gently
back through the hole. A large rock now
holds the bottom of the fence in place.
No more escapes, at least for this week.
Once they were safely behind bars, no fencing,
we headed up the driveway with the boys, only
to discover many bunny footprints in the snow.
Seems Praline and Smudge had been cavorting
and enjoyed the scenery, but had thought better of
life in the wild. How could they give up their daily
carrots, lettuce, chicory, apples and chard?
Just beyond the bunny tracks, wily coyote’s
footprints could clearly be seen, having traveled
through sometime in the night.
You crazy wabbits…here are the culprits now
