Up-cycle home decor with a vintage flair 52 projects #25

The Superhero and I got busy on a collaborative project to make a new daybed sofa for our (dog) den.  It certainly feels more like a dog house than a people den, so we wanted to update it with a daybed we could cover with many layers and make it washable to keep it fresh and clean.  We’ve a collection of some old wood from the house still lurking about in the barn, and with the last remaining old door and a foot board from an old 3/4 bed found free on the side of the road, we (he construction, me paint), created a new day bed.

It is super comfy and perfect to read in. Has a deep 10″ mattress of eco memory foam and lots of covers available to keep it fresh and new(no thanks to the fur crowd around here). But it sure is fun to snuggle with them on such a wide expanse.  Comfortably fits 3 dogs and me anyway…..luckily the Superhero like to sit in a chair.  Dogs will just have to take turns.

Moving back into the journal every day, something I have been missing and have purposefully freed up time to get stuck back in, she appeared on a painted background page.  Maybe she was looking at the new daybed, what do you think?

Happy week, smile more, read more, journal more and OH more.

Love that day bed, what a great idea, you dogs will be living in the lap of luxury. Wish you many happy hours reading with them. Lovely journaling, too. Hugs, Valerie

I’m sure that bed will get lots of use and I speak from experience in knowing exactly why you have many covers ready to switch out on it. I have one special one that only comes out when company is coming and I try to keep it relatively hair free but hey, if you don’t want dog or cat hair on your clothes, better not bother to come here. Sure you are right, she is OH so impressed with the new bed!

Fantastic daybed. I bet you could get all 5 pups up on it but maybe not you. The wood has great patina to it. I will have to come by sometime and give it a try. 🙂 Hugs-Erika

I love furniture made from reclaimed wood and your daybed is fantastic, Corrine! I’m sure it will get used a lot. Your cute new girl seems to be very excited about it too. She looks like she wants to test it out right away.

I can relate when you said your people den is more like a dog house. When my husband and I watch TV, our three dogs want to get on the sofa too. Not a lot of room at that point. I’ve told my husband that we need to get another smaller sofa, and make an “L” shape with the two. I like the daybed idea. It does look very comfy.

You and superhero did a fantastic job on the day bed. I would LOVE something like that. It looks no just comfy, but colorful, too.

Yes, I think your gal is staring at the day bed, because that’s exactly what I thought when i saw her, but before I read what you wrote. Great minds and all.

Yes, your girl is definitely saying “Oh, nice daybed, Corrine” which it is. “He construction, me paint” sounds very Tarzan like, A superhero who can do construction like this is a keeper (I’ve got one too).
