There Is A Certain Green

There is a certain green
that only appears at this
time of year, that yellow
green of new growth.

We are a wild and shady
place this hilly landscape
sloping down to the pond.

No flat ground anywhere,
except manufactured by concrete
and gravel, ledge blasted or
covered up before our time.

We are granite, blocky
glacial till with hard rock
clay soil.  Each step we
take is either down or up
so that I always walk tilted here
until we crest the hill to the
pasture where some flat
ground can be found.

I am amazed at the abundance
that fights it’s way up through
the crust and proves day and
and day out that it is a blessing
to be a witness to this grandeur.

Wild and leafy yellow green…
