Happy Tuesday all. Jose is heading up towards New England but we don’t expect to see much more than heavy surf and rip currents and some tropical feeling rain. Which is good news. (Thanks to Elizabeth for thinking of us). Being one town in from the ocean we don’t worry as much, but the Piscatequa River is less than 1/4 mile from our house and a tidal wetland lies behind us although our house is about 15-20 feet above where that occurs so we don’t have flood zone issues. It’s raining today and will be tomorrow, but I think that will be it. We did however find a gift from the Gulf Stream which rode up to us no doubt from Irma. A piece of coral on the riverhead beach.
Yesterday was a stash busting day. I re-purposed a heavy cotton thrifted tablecloth ($1) to make a dog nest bed. I used about $2 worth of poly stuffing, so all in all a 30″ round dog nest with removable pillow, all can be washed in the machine for $3 and a bit of my time. I have another larger tablecloth in the same fabric so I will be making another sometime this week. What better to do on rainy days…and these beds run in the $50 to well over $100 range, so it’s a bargain anyway you look at it.
Some nesting to get ready for Fall, that’s what the fabric makes me think of anyway. I covered it in a clean towel and it’s been in constant use since I popped it into our den last night.
And finally some art journaling painted faces. “She doesn’t conform to anyone else’s idea of who she should be.” The background started off like this.
And I found a face pasted into my journal that I tore apart and then added details and paint to and here she is…
I like the idea that she is her own and strong woman with no need to enhance herself to be something she is not… I hope that anyone in harms way from Jose or now the coming Maria fares well. This has been a monumentally tragic hurricane season thus far. It will be a while before anyone gets back to “normal”. Stay safe.
