Orchid Overload: Do Not View if You Hate Flowers

The US Botanical Garden is one of my favorite places in Washington.  Not officially part of the Smithsonian, it sit’s between the museums and the Capitol building.  The glass conservatory is home to many different gardens and while we were there this trip it seemed as if all the orchids were in bloom…

Check out this massive pavilion inside the scent room.  There were aluminum flowers filled with herbs and spices set up to be inhaled so that one could experience the scent. I could seriously enjoy this pavilion and the millstone bench in my back yard, couldn’t you?

Here is another pavilion outside where we sought some welcome shade.  It was only 80F in Washington but we are not used to being in the sun all day. Seriously tired, sunburned superhero was reluctant to leave the shady spot.

Wearing two pair of glasses at once is an art form, didn’t you know? Now shield your eyes for the orchid overload…

I love the first pic, Corrine, wouldn’t it be lovely to have at home.

    The orchids are sensational.

WOW!! I so enjoyed your visit to the Botanical Garden. I missed it when I was in DC several years ago. There are only so many things you can visit and the art museum took two days. Wish I’d been into flowers and awesome scents back then. You did a wonderful job sharing this museum with us. Thank you for that.

Gorgeous orchids…and the rare one of the or-kid too.
I can see some of your digital collages blooming out of this.

Holy moly – those are some gorgeous orchids. That’s one of the best thing about them…the amazing variety and sometimes other-worldliness of them. They’re so exotic and dramatic. Will we be seeing orchids showing up in your drawings?

Looks like an excellent trip – yet another place to add to our “must see” list….

Lovely display of Botanicals! We have a botanical garden here in Wichita and I am embarrassed to admit I bought a membership to it last August and have only used it once. I blame it on the computer and art making…I really should go. I wish I could take my dog though. I suppose he wouldn’t be good for the rose bushes though.

Who is the man with two glasses? Did you already say? I didn’t see.

    Happy Tuesday Corrine!
