I had a wonderful visit from my friend Damini this weekend. She has a large installation in a show “Forces of Nature” at Plymouth State College and we headed up to the artist’s reception. Her piece is visually stunning and quite complex with her offerings from nature as part of the work. This work came from her “Conversations with Land” series which is ongoing. The exhibit will be up until the middle of August if anyone is in the area. She is also giving a workshop at Ghost Ranch in September for anyone feeling like a sojourn in the dessert.
We visited the Maine Fiber Arts Museum and saw a fabulous exhibit of artist’s books from their members. If you are ever in the Topsham/Brunswick area, don’t miss this gem of a museum. We stopped into the original Artist and Craftsman store in Portland on the way home and it was so hard to keep the dollars in the wallet let me tell you.
Art making on the beach topped off our art filled weekend and we just had the best time relaxing and doing our own thing – but together. The synergy of working side by side, me stitching, she drawing had us bouncing energy off each other and made for a special afternoon.
A vacation at home, with a best friend, lots of seafood and celebration, now that’s hard to beat. Friends do make art making better. Please click on the photos to make them larger, especially this first one so you can see Damini’s whole piece as she photos it for herself.
