Father’s Day is always hard for me.
Dad and I were close and he passed away when
my son Jay was just 16, so they didn’t have
enough time together.
Dad used to live on a small lake and had a
boat and my son loves the water and swimming,
so did my dad and they spent alot of time together
in the water, in the boat, being silly.
I thought I would share these two old
photos I scanned in of them together
when Jay was three and a little older.
Two peas in a pod.
I thought this one was funny as it looks like they
are both talking at the same time, my son
as always, animated.
Driving the boat with grampy from July 1989. I always loved
this shot because Jay looks so apprehensive as if to say,
“does grampy know what he is doing mom?
He was a great dad, always there for me, always willing to
listen, even when he thought my ideas were way out. I miss him
My husband David is a great dad too. He has been a fabulous
step-dad to Jay and has two grown kids of his own, and we have
four grandchildren too. Quite the blended family.
My husband and my dad share one very important trait in common,
their willingness to be silly to make a child laugh. Both of them
were willing to be kids again to play with their kids. It is a quality
in both of them that I admire very much. Hugs and kisses to you
dad wherever you are and to my David too.
