As I watch our new pup Peanut grow, and grow, oh, and grow, I am reminded of our most faithful companions who have gone before. This little girl reminds me of another girl who has passed but will never be forgotten.
Blossom. Ran every run, chased every squirrel, kept constant watch while we gathered kindling and firewood. Sniffed each leaf as if it were the first breath she ever took. Reveled and rolled in every unmentionable pile of you know what in the woods. Stood on point whenever she saw a bird. Hunted frogs in the pond, even though she never caught a single one.
Blossom made mischief like a fireworks explosion on the Fourth of July. Dug to the center of the earth and back. Ate my first Japanese Maple to the ground. Caused a ruckus with her siblings whenever possible. Was a trial and naughty when it suited her but always had time for lovin.
Not a day goes by that she isn’t in my thoughts as well as her siblings Pickle, Buster, Mama, and Man Man.
I cannot imagine a life without these magnificent creature to grace me with their wisdom and presence and teach me so many things about how to love. I think Miss Peanut is well on her way to becoming like her big sisters and brothers before her, and her sister and brother’s now.
I live a lucky, lucky life. For that I am oh so thankful.
