Doll Stories

The best part about doll making is the stories they have to tell me.  I am always hearing whispers of who they want to be as the process goes along.  Whether it’s a piece of fabric that I chose, or a button, or even the thread colors(I use variegated cotton thread from Italy by Sulky), the doll stories take on a life of their own. My whimsical and funky characters bring real joy to me, they all have a special place in my heart and each contributes something back to me I know, because they make me smile whenever I look at them and that’s the best thing any day. I like to think of them as contemporary rag dolls.

Meet Auntie Ina.  She is all heart and hugs with her wide open arms and big paddle hands ready to give you that bear hold.  She is there to sit and listen to all your triumphs and your woes.  Since she is a bit cross eyed, she’s always on the lookout for trouble to keep you safe. Auntie Ina is a generous and soothing soul.

Yesterday it poured and poured, so I sewed all day.  This gal is in the works, no name yet, as her story is still simmering inside.  I will share her when she is finished.

Auntie Ina is enchanting and that includes her cross-eyed appearance! She is full of character and personality.
Corrine, art dolls are something I want to dip into, it is another one of those items on my Wish To Do List! Why does that list always seem to increase in size?!
Such great colours, you truly have an eye for combining colours and patterns.
Eager to see the development of your next doll.
Thank you for your comment on my Art House.

Love Auntie Ina. I have a teacher friend named Ina and I bet she would like that when she’s cross with the kids. 🙂 Hugs-Erika

Oh, Auntie Ina. If you had been my aunt, I’d have given you a big bear hug and told you how much I admire your face and gentle soul. Can’t wait to meet your friend!

I loved Auntie Ina on Instagram and I love her here too. Who wouldn’t love an Auntie who gives hugs. I like her sparse hair, I think she must like it too as she dyes it with many colours. Your dolls create their own stories.

You always use such a great mix of fabrics. One day you should post a photo of all the dolls together. The colors and patterns would really pop. I love Auntie Ina’s hair, and I love that little “hat” with the worded fabric on the second one.

I love them Corrine, they are so special souls, and all, with long arms to hug and big eyes, to see through you. Love the stitching you does and all the matching colors-
They are a part of you, and I can imagine it will be hard to send them away !!!

Oh aunty Auntie Ina is a favourite, I’d love to play with her and see her dance with those long arms swinging away! She looks like a sweet soul and I love her colours and dress with the green heart. I love the look of the other doll in the making, she will be good company for auntie Ina, super, original works!

They make me smile too 🙂 And I love how they all have their own character, and how they speak to you about who they want to be. So cute …. ♥
