Beauty in Decay

The last of the Fall color is fading
fast into browns and burnished golds.
Yesterday yellow rained down on the ground
all day today spreading the golden
glow everywhere. The late light
seemed to enhance the patina of
the tree tops giving them a coppery glow.

Bare limbs and light moving rapidly
around the bowl of the pond.

Glimpses of copper and rust.
An understory of leaves.
There is a path here somewhere?
The mice and voles will be rooting about
all night, happily, before we rake it all away.
