A Little Birdie Named Maria Told Me…

Last week, Maria Maguire posted this bird on her blog which I was completely charmed by and she talked about Brave Girls Club and taking this class, the Wings Session.  I immediately decided that I need to practice my drawing skills and Maria made the class sound so heart centered, I signed up.  Well the “The Stuckness” came for a visit and I sat for a whole week without drawing one single bird. Lots of attempts, lots of erasures, lots more attempts, lots more erasure.  I am so not a drawing person, unless it’s fierce tribal women or faceless spirits.  But this morning, when I awoke at 4:30, I grabbed my journal and began to see the makings of a bird calling to me in my painted background.  So now I have drawn, and colored my first instructive attempt at a birdie.  A yellow birdie with a pinky orange sun. Thanks to a connection with Maria, made through a connection with my friend Carolyn Dube, I have embarked on a new journey of spreading my “wings” in this class.  Friends really do open your eyes to new possibilities….and I am grateful for moving always in a new direction while keeping my own story along the way.

Tempura painted background page with black oil pastel, pencil, colored pencils and crayons….I think it was the crayons that made “The Stuckness” disappear.

I also find that crayons help me to get unstuck. They bring out that little kid artist who never suffered from “the stuckness”. I love your yellow birdie!

I’m not a drawing person either and often feel intimidated when I try – BUT one of my goals this year is to pick a few simple images and work a whole month on making something happen….birds is one of my images – they’ve been calling to me for months. Then I see this lively little guy, and I’m ready to tackle one of my own. But it will have to wait since Feb. is heart month.

I love Carolyn’s art as well and see a similarity in the way you each love color. I can’t wait to watch you spread your wings and share what you learn in this class.

What a cute little bird, I think you did a wonderful job drawing and the painting is bright and vibrant too.
Sounds like a fantastic class, glad it’s gotten rid of the stuckies.
