52 Projects #27 Sunpie Wonder Fairy

Upcycling and re-use is a favorite of mine as many of you know.  I found some serving tray tins at my local thrift and decided that it might be fun to find another use for an item that we all have and rarely, if but once a year use.  So my canvas for this piece was a tin.  I had drawn the sunpie face on watercolor paper and painted it with watered down acrylics, uniball pen and gelly roll markers. I used chalk decor paint on the tin and gave it two coats both sides and sealed it with acrylic sealer.  Added collage, added the Sunpie face and sealed it again 2x.  I had some hand stitched muslin rope to which I added further stitched and felted balls in a variety of colors.  Some wire and more felt and beads and I could get the idea of a wonder fairy out of my head so meet Sunpie Wonder Fairy.

This week the Superhero and I hit a flea market up the coast in Arundal.  And of course, some more tin trays came home with me – maybe this gal will have a sister or two.

Not sure if you can see the glass bead gel around the image, but I liked the way it framed in the face.

Staying true to my collage and my whimsy.

What a clever upcycled project. This is not something I would have thought of, but I don’t have any tin, so it was also a wonderful read and great surprise. I simply adore Sunpie the Wonder Fairy. I also adore her hanger, too.

This is so sweet, Corrine! The tray must be happy to look so lovely now. I’m sure Sunpie Wonder Fairy would like to have a sister or two.

Oh so very pretty and colourful. I love the way you make art, your own art. She has a kind face, I think she is someone’s favourite aunt.
I do like the patterned collage on the outer rings and the colourful felt balls give it the extra oomph. The wire with the balls and beads finishes it beautifully.

Glad I found this and didn’t totally miss the email that it was posted. I just love this Corrine. It makes me feel so happy, which the weather is more or less doing right now. Even if it is a bit too hot. 🙂 I’ve got a couple of busy weeks but once we get into July we should plan another fun day together. Hugs-erika
